How often should you deep clean your Houston home?

July 8, 20265 min read

Standard cleaning keeps a home tidy week to week. Deep cleaning is the reset: baseboards, inside the oven and fridge, cabinet fronts, grout, ceiling fans, the spots a weekly wipe-down never reaches. In Houston, the gap between the two matters more than it does in a drier city.

Our humidity runs high most of the year. Dust holds moisture, bathroom grout grows mildew faster, and kitchen grease turns sticky instead of powdery. A home in Katy or Fulshear collects buildup on a different clock than the same house would in Denver.

A simple schedule that works here

Most Houston homes do well on a light recurring clean every week or two, with a full deep clean two to four times a year. The right number depends on who lives there.

  • No pets, two adults, low traffic: deep clean twice a year, spring and fall.
  • Kids at home: every three to four months. Sticky surfaces and floors take the most abuse.
  • Pets that shed: every three months. Hair works into baseboards, vents, and upholstery faster than people expect.
  • Allergies in the house: every two to three months. Houston pollen and indoor dust are a bad pair.

What Houston weather does to the timeline

Two seasons drive most of the extra work. Spring loads the air with oak and pine pollen that films every flat surface. Late summer humidity feeds mildew in bathrooms and around windows. A deep clean right after peak pollen in April, and again before the holidays, covers the two worst stretches.

After a storm or a run of closed-up, AC-running days, check the usual mildew spots: shower corners, window sills, the seal on the fridge door. Catching it early keeps a quarterly deep clean from turning into a scrubbing marathon.

What a deep clean covers that a standard clean skips

  • Inside the oven, fridge, and cabinet fronts
  • Baseboards, door frames, and light switch plates
  • Grout scrubbing in showers and backsplashes
  • Ceiling fans, vents, and blinds
  • Interior windows and sills

On a standard Tosh clean, some of these are already included depending on the service. On a deep clean, all of them are on the checklist, and the cleaner works room by room instead of surface by surface.

Not sure where your home sits?

If you cannot remember your last deep clean, it is due. A standard deep clean with Tosh starts at $140 and covers the full list above. We serve West Houston, Katy, Fulshear, and Brookshire, with same-day slots when the schedule allows.
